BENJI WAS lying facedown on something soft. He didn’t know what he was on or even where he was. He’d fallen asleep for a few minutes, just long enough to become confused.
Standing by Benji’s side, Carl said, “Benji, I’m so sorry.”
“For what?” Benji asked.
“I had wanted to be the one who went on stage with you. But I had another appointment and couldn’t be back here in time. I got here just in time to see the tail end of things. It looked to me like you were having trouble on stage.”
“Only when he focused on my nuts. Otherwise, I liked it. I needed it, and he gave me what I needed.”
“Excuse me?” Carl asked.
“He wasn’t doing enough, so I asked him to ramp it up. And he did.”
“A Dom is supposed to be in charge of the situation. He is responsible for ensuring your safety as well as your satisfaction. He didn’t do that very well tonight, from what I could see, and I am very unhappy.”
“It’s my fault,” Benji tried, pushing himself to sit up. His backside was so tender the move was not as easily accomplished as he’d anticipated. “I don’t know all about this bondage shit, so I take responsibility. I goaded him into doing more.”
“He should have stopped. He set a bad example tonight. I can’t have that. He’s a new member, but I thought he knew better than that. I’ll deal with him.”
Once he was somewhat comfortably situated, Benji tried again. “He was only doing what I asked him to do. Okay, maybe the nuts bit was a little over the line,” he noted, feeling his tender testicles and recalling the mashing they’d gotten. Benji asked, “How did the audience respond to the show tonight?”
Carl looked at him for a moment without speaking. “They loved it. The entire idea is to push the sub to his limits but not over the edge. The Dom is supposed to control that.”
“He did,” Benji told Carl. “The problem happened when I got into the audience on my way back here. Some people started touching me. That hurt like a bitch, but I was doing okay. Then someone—some guy with big hands—slapped my ass. Let me tell you, that hurt like dozens of firecrackers going off inside my brain. I saw stars and then nothing.”
“Still,” Carl tried again, “the Dom shouldn’t have taken you that far. You are not experienced enough to try to go there.”
“I took it, didn’t I?” Benji asked, growing tired of Carl’s complaints.
“That’s not the issue,” Carl argued.
“Seemed to be the only issue that really matters, if you ask me,” Benji added.
“With time and training…,” Carl started, then paused as if searching for the proper word to use.
“I was a soldier for a bunch of years. I’ve been trained in how to resist torture, in how to handle abuse if captured by the enemy. I’ve run obstacle courses. I’ve been beaten and punched more times than I can count. It’s toughened me up, I think, so I don’t see a problem.
